Poroshenko appoints exiled former Georgian leader as ‘non-staff advisor’ — Saakashvili served as Georgia’s president from 2004 to 2013. His time in office was criticized by the opposition for authoritarian tactics. Since his presidential term ended, Saakashvili has been living in exile in the United States.
